The Role

The Sales Representative will play a pivotal role in supporting Visit Wichita’s sales managers in attracting and securing meetings and conventions to our vibrant city. This position requires a proactive, organized, and dynamic individual who is passionate about promoting Wichita as a premier destination. The Sales Representative will prospect potential meetings and conventions clients to grow the sales pipeline and will assist the sales managers to ensure seamless operations within the sales team. This position reports to the Sales Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Prospecting: Identify and engage potential clients, including meeting planners and convention organizers, to promote Wichita as an ideal location for their events. Utilize cold calling, networking, CRM database, MINT database and other sales strategies to generate leads and close deals.  Research leads and provide to Managers.
  • Client Relations: Act as a point of contact for clients during the initial stages of engagement. Schedule meetings, respond to inquiries, and maintain an organized database of client contacts and interactions.
  • Client Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring their needs are met and that Wichita remains their top choice for hosting events.
  • Administrative Duties: Support the Group Sales team with administrative tasks such as schedule meetings, maintain databases, prepare reports, handle check requests, manage calendars, prepare meeting agendas and minutes, coordinate letters of support, and other organizational activities as well as maintain files and records with efficiency and accuracy. Maintain annual membership database.
  • Sales Support: Assist sales managers in the preparation and distribution of marketing and promotional materials. Help organize sales presentations and information sessions for potential clients.  Coordinate all aspects of trade show participation including pricing, registration, collateral, sales booth, organization of sponsored event, appointment books, giveaways and more.
  • Performance Goals: Meet or exceed assigned sales targets, contributing to the team's overall success. Provide regular updates to the Sales Manager on progress and market trends.
  • Data Management: Utilize CRM systems to track sales progress and client engagement. Generate reports to help the sales team measure success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Event Coordination: Support the logistics of hosting site inspections and familiarization tours for potential clients and client events in Wichita, Topeka and other locations. Coordinate with local partners and service providers to showcase the best of Wichita.
  • Event Support: Assist in the planning and execution of site visits and familiarization tours for potential clients. Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure events run smoothly and visitors' expectations are exceeded.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including marketing, partnership and sports to ensure alignment of goals and strategies.
  • Market Research: Conduct research on industry trends and potential clients. Gather data to support sales pitches and strategy development.

Education and Experience: 

  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Proven sales experience
  • Success being a team player in a work environment

Competencies and Skills: 

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of effectively networking and building relationships with a diverse range of clients
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software
  • Strong multitasking skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills – ability to establish priorities and follow through on all tasks
  • Team orientation and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of the meetings, conventions, and sports tourism industry preferred
  • Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and an insured vehicle for periodic business use
